The Customer Service Account Representative provides financial counseling; verifies insurance benefits daily on pre-admitted accounts, and previous day's emergency and direct admits for assigned financial classes and patient services; initiates or completes pre-authorization for Utilization Review on direct admits; meets and/or contacts with patients to explain identified insurance benefits and estimated out of pocket expenses; initiates and performs a daily routine that will identify priority accounts for pre-registration and insurance verification; communicates effectively and timely with all Business Office, UR, Pre-Authorization, and Registration staff; demonstrates ability to learn and utilize software such as THOR, Medifax, and other online verification entities; completes Medicare Secondary Payor (MSP) questions; maintains and updates a database of employer/insurance company information; accurately edits verification notes and/or insurance changes and corrections in Affinity and/or Bradoc systems; obtains the required information from patient/family and accurately completes registration; schedules and/or pre-admits patients; coordinates the PAT labs with physician and patients and enters lab orders into the computer; assists the pre-admit and pre-authorization nurses in predetermination of patient care and financial data; assures the delivery of pre-admit forms, admit forms, armbands, labels, patient care orders and test results from referral sources; identifies MDRO (multi-drug resistant organism) patients through use of privacy code and clinical circumstances and provides input to Medical Records regarding MRUN merges and patient statistics.
Requirements:
Associate degree from a business or technical college or equivalent education/work experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology or must complete course (in-house) within six (6) months from date of hire.
- Customer service and problem solving skills.
- Type 40 words per minute.
