BUSINESS-CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs all duties related to the collection of accounts receivable. Establishes payment arrangements with patients in order to collect on accounts.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Customer Service Representative:

  • Collects delinquent accounts, establishes payment arrangements with patients, and follows up to ensure that delinquent accounts are being paid.
  • Evaluates unpaid accounts. Works with collection agency and small-claims court action accounts. Represents the hospital in all court cases dealing with outstanding patient account bills.
  • Establishes payroll deductions for hospital employees for outstanding patient accounts. Obtains signature from the hospital for automatic transfers. Prepares the payroll deduction form and gives it to the payroll clerk.
  • Handles all bankruptcy accounts.
  • Sets up all payment arrangement on accounts and monitors them to make sure they are paying as agreed.
  • Works on payment arrangements with self-paying accounts that are overdue. Types and mails collection letters and review accounts on a scheduled basis. Telephones those who do not respond to letters. Records all transactions on account.
  • Records payments received on account and notifies collection agency of amounts received.
  • Prepares bad debt report to send to outside agency.
  • Handles all medical liens.
  • Handles all patient financial applications on patient applying for hospital assistance; mails approval or denial letters.
  • Accepts and completes other duties assigned.
  • The employee is required to comply with all PCI standards and other company policies and procedures for payment card acceptance and security.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Experience: One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education experience.

Equipment/Technology: Ability to use hospital information system, and operate basic computer functions and software.

Language/Communication: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Mental Capabilities: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Interpersonal: Ability to work well with others.
