About You
You are a proven leader and manager. Your leadership experience has given you the ability to win the hearts and minds of highly technical salespeople. You are a motivator and a coach, driving your team to success in creative selling and problem-solving. You foster an environment of accountability, not just with your sales team but throughout our organization. You have experience developing successful sales strategies to exceed yours and your team’s goals. You are resourceful and you excel in situations with multiple variables and constraints. You have experience selling motion control products. You have at least five years of successful sales experience developing new business in the field of motion control. You are passionate about helping the customer and winning the business; you always make one more call. Ideally, you have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Industrial Distribution, Business or a related field.
You are proficient in motion control, using hydraulic, automation and pneumatic technologies. You can apply your technical knowledge to translate any application’s performance requirements into specific solution recommendations using mathematical sizing calculations and/or software tools. You are inquisitive and are never satisfied. You can troubleshoot almost any technical problem. You are a subject matter expert when it comes to motion control.
You are a strong communicator. You can clearly communicate in all formats, and you are comfortable presenting complex technical information to a variety of people including those you’ve never met. You are confident in your communications with engineers and business owners. You are persuasive and influential.
You are a self-starter. You are self-motivated and have the unique ability to manage your time wisely to maximize your success. You work well on your own and don’t require much oversight from your manager. You can be trusted to fully execute your responsibilities, even when you’re managing multiple projects and customer requests simultaneously.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
The Regional Sales Manager role is dynamic and rewarding, allowing you to learn and grow every day through experiential leadership, customer interaction and exposure to new products, product applications, and solutions. Below is a partial list of some of the responsibilities of the role:
- Monitor and direct the daily activities of assigned outside salespeople; develop strategy for each sales person’s customer and product mix to align with region and company’s goals
- Develop, coach, mentor, and train sales staff; establish annual business goals to review at least quarterly with each person; conduct regular performance reviews as required.
- Support sales process by regularly accompanying salespeople to customer visits; assist with development and delivery of presentations to customers; review all presentations to ensure consistency
- Review all sales quotes to properly assess risk and profitability targets before approval
- Manage customer issues and orders in the absence of a sales person
- Sell products and services to selected large customer accounts
- Respond to escalated customer issues quickly and effectively to satisfy all parties
- Develop and maintain strong positive relationships with suppliers
- Forecast supplier needs and develop sales projections per product line, by service, by segment, or in other ways as defined by business need
- Create business plans to support sales forecast and customer requirements
- Manage monthly expenses within budget
- Maintain knowledge of current trends in local markets, segments and businesses
- Maintain current technical expertise; provide project management and design support for certain customer product requirements
- Participate in trade shows, trade associations, and customer training opportunities
- Communicate regularly and effectively with sales team and Regional Vice President; conduct monthly Regional Sales meetings
- Support and implement company strategies and initiatives
- Support and participate in the development, management and utilization of the customer database within the ERP system
- Interface effectively with other organizational units, such as supply chain management, credit and logistics, to accomplish goals and resolve issues
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Typically the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some movement from area to area, lifting and transporting of items such as a laptop computer, books, and small parts. Position requires long periods of sitting while driving or riding as a passenger in an automobile. Must be able to move through customer sites, including warehouses, shipyards, oil field rigs, manufacturing facilities, etc. Must be able to effectively communicate using company-issued devices such as laptop, mobile phone, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the primary duties of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to various outdoor and indoor environments, including temperature variances, humidity, dust, noise, etc. Overnight travel may be required; frequency depends upon assigned sales region. Attending regular meetings, training and making sales calls via automobile or airplane is required. Work outside normal business hours is required from time to time.
