Broiler Field Representative

Primarily responsible for supervising assigned broiler farms and serving as a representative of Wayne Farms to contracted growers. Will provide technical assistance to growers by monitoring house conditions, bird’s care and comfort, and providing recommendations to improve bird’s welfare and performance and reduce costs for company and growers.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Act as liaison between Wayne Farms and contract growers.
  • Advise growers regarding building and equipment specifications, litter manipulation, farm sanitation, best practices, policies, procedures, bio security, etc.
  • Ensure all USDA and other government regulations are followed when handling poultry.
  • Provide chick placement times, catch times, and feed withdrawal times.
  • Document bird comfort, flock management and equipment settings.
  • Monitor husbandry practices by growers and make recommendations.
  • Track, record and analyze bird mortality rates.
  • Maintain feed tank inventories and order feed as required.
  • Prepare flock completion reports.
  • Evaluate grower’s performances.
  • Provide technical assistance.
  • Instruct grower.
  • Provide weight and head estimates.
  • Coordinate feed deliveries.
  • All other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • There are no direct reporting responsibilities with this position; however, this position is a Leader of People position with required competencies: Strategic Agility, Business Acumen, Building Effective Teams, Customer Focus and Command Skills.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND minimum 2 years’ live poultry experience within a similar environment OR Associate’s Degree in Poultry Science, Agricultural Science or related field from an accredited institution.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Poultry Science, Agricultural Science or related field from an accredited institution.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Solid foundational poultry science knowledge.
  • Highly effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • High work capacity, dependable, results oriented and strong sense of urgency.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated general knowledge of math functions and skills.
  • Solid organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate.
  • Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character.

REQUIRED PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS:

  • Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and prioritize work accordingly.
  • Ability to understand and interpret data while drawing logical conclusions based on available inputs.
  • Critical thinking skills in standardized situations as well as non-routine problems.
  • Basic reasoning skills and carries out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.
