CHARGE CAPTURE SPECIALIST

  • Responsible for performing daily audits of patient records, comparing patient financial account and patient medical records to ensure patient accounts reflect accurate and verifiable charges.
  • Job Responsibilities
    • Assists Business Office and Revenue Integrity Department with billing issues. Identifies hospital charging and nursing documentation issues and relates these to the appropriate department managers.
    • Reconciles the number of charges and patients for Surgical Services, Out of Area Anesthesia, Emergency Department, and Women's Services.
    • Reviews patient charts for completeness and verifies all information is accurately documented and charged.
    • Enters appropriate patient charge codes into patient accounting system.
    • Documents additions and corrects errors to EMR according to departmental standards .
    • Communicates with staff for needed documentation to complete charting for accurate charging and billing.
    • Communicates departmental charging issues to the appropriate department manager/supervisor.
    • Provides support to Billing, Patient Accounting, and Finance representatives to assist with billing issues and patient inquires.
    • Provides ongoing education for staff to communicate and improve charge capture and documentation.
    • Educates and orients staff to the charging practices and documentation standards for the department.
    • Maintains an understanding of medical record practices, standards, and regulations.
